BOOK SYNOPSIS

In The Dirty Game, investigative reporter and BBC Panaroma presenter Andrew Jennings reveals the eye-watering level of fraud and criminal activity at the heart of one of the world's largest sporting bodies. Based on years of research and a wealth of never-before-seen documents, The Dirty Game reveals the key protagonists, crimes and evidence. From Blatter to Blazer, from bribary to embezzlement, this gripping account is the definitive portrait of the downfall of FIFA, and the men who stole football.

OUR REVIEW

What's one book, when you can have a second that goes even further in exposing the scandal and cloud that has been hanging over FIFA for years and Jennings does it again as he takes aim at many a character from within the walls of Zurich and from those in the highest positions across the globe. Approximately a decade further on from his other book Foul! The Secret World of FIFA, the powers at FIFA, led by then President Sepp Blatter, were almost brazenly promoting their behaviour, giving Jennings further material to run the rule over from the Qatar 2022 World Cup vote and subsequent scandal, the inner workings of CONCACAF's President Jack Warner and his rule in America and the Caribbean and of course not forgetting the enigmatic and bizarre character that is Chuck Blazer.

Jennings is relentless in throwing the pages upon pages of evidence stacking up against them, yet still they denied anything untoward going on. Its quite staggering really that despite everything that went on, it just continued to stack up with little to no involvement from the authorities at the time. Thankfully, as we all now know, it eventually came crashing down with the likes of Blatter, Warner, Blazer as well as Michel Platini and Mohamed Bin Hammam all falling on their swords and it's all in here and quite remarkable that it took so long to come to a head.

Let's be honest, there is no Football Association that comes out smelling of roses here, each region had either their fingers in the pie as they say or turned a blind eye to what was surely plainly obvious to all, corruption on a massive scale. The sponsors, the kick-backs, the clandestine conversations, it's all in the book and a truly fascinating dossier. I'll admit that this sort of book fascinates me and like Foul!, it can be hard at times to follow with so many names and so much going on, though it is slightly easier to follow. Stick with it, because you won't quite believe the brazen behaviour going on and it makes a remarkable read and certainly worth a punt!

Don't take our word for it, grab the book and give it a read and let us know your thoughts!
